The show features work from nine female artists of colour based in the UK and internationally exploring their own thoughts, ideas and experiences through the theme of Representation.
It is undeniable that people of colour and women in general are underrepresented in media and society’s consciousness at large. While it is true that women of colour are represented in the gallery space more than ever before, it is clear that there is still a large amount of misrepresentation and underrepresentation. We are Seen and Unseen.
Through mixed media, photography, film and art, this show brings together a diverse breadth of artists from various backgrounds; to engage in dialogue about how they have been represented, how they would like to be represented, the complexities of identity and the ways in which collective and individual voices are merged where one is often a spokesperson for the entire community rather than as their individual self.
